For as long as humans have existed they’ve been pretty into seeing depictions of other humans having sex. Whether you call this pornography, erotica, or adult entertainment, you might’ve noticed it’s undergone huge changes recently in terms of availability, content and access. Rather than having a discussion about the validity of porn and whether it should exist, I thought we could talk about the fact that it’s ubiquitous, homogenous and mostly monotonous. But as ever, feminists are working within its confines to produce meaningful explorations of human sexuality and yes, sometimes, caring less about the deep politics and making sure the final product is just plain hot. I want to talk about women and porn in a robust way, but we’ll also talk some about the impact of porn on people who consume it in extreme quantities, including kids (bearing in mind how little research has contributed to this collective understanding). So yeah? Yeah. Feminism and Porn, the CLF we’ve been holding our breaths for. Featuring some incredible thinkers and educators:
Natasha Smith: Activist, researcher, provisional psychologist, feminist
Catherine Manning: CEO, educator, campaigner, feminist
Gala Vanting: Erotic film producer, educator, pleasure activist, feminist
Aeryn Walker: Pornographer, ethical slut, sci-fi lover, feminist
Obviously, this panel will involve explicit discussion of adult themes, so please be warned!
