The politics of how people come into the world are complex and powerful (and include many other factors besides labour) but there is a moment when every one of us goes from unborn to born and how we see this process has a huge impact on many women.\n\nHere in Australia it's only recently that childbirth moved from the home to the hospital and while there are many good reasons for this\, there are also great arguments to stop the medicalisation of birth. Childbirth\, and how we approach it\, is also obviously impacted by our class\, race\, age\, body\, gender and sexuality\, and as with most feminist issues these intersections of power and disadvantage can completely circumscribe the experience for some women. I'd love to talk openly about a subject that many people go through personally\, some witness many times\, but that really affects us all.\n\nI'm welcoming some absolutely stellar talent to the CLF stage next month:\n\nNamila Benson - broadcaster\, advocate\, Pasifika mama\, feminist\n\nMonica Dux - Age columnist\, author\, mother\, feminist\n\nElizabeth Sutherland - teacher\, writer\, queer parent\, feminist\n\nMarisa Monagle - nurse (midwife for 30 years)\, activist\, birth and adoptive mother\, feminist\n\nWe are so thrilled that all of these brilliant women can join us at our sparkling new venue and we warmly invite you to book tickets early so you don't miss out! The Melba Speigeltent is utterly gorgeous\, fully accessible\, and super kid-friendly\, so bring the bubs and wee ones. We thought mums in particular might love a night out talking about something so close to home\, and whether you want a glass of wine or a cuppa\, as well as dinner from the food truck\, we can help.\n\nTuesday 4 August\n6.30pm - 8.30pm (note earlier start)\n$15 prebooked online $20 on the door if not sold out\nThe Melba Speigeltent\n35 Johnston St Collingwood\n(in the Circus Oz compound\, next to the Tote)\nKids and babies welcome\n\nTickets available here\n\nWe are excited about our new venue and this new topic\, and we like the synergy between them! We'd so love to see your smiling faces as we christen the new digs and make a new home for the Cherchez la Femme family.\n\nWarmest\nKaren x URL:https://cherchezlafemme.com.au/event/cherchez-la-femme-feminism-and-birth/ LOCATION:35 Johnston Street\, Collingwood\, Victoria\, 3066\, Australia CATEGORIES:Cherchez La Femme Melbourne END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
