Melbourne’s favourite feminist talk show is returning to Sydney! Cherchez La Femme was created by host Karen Pickering, Director of the Girls On Film Festival (GOFF) and co-founder of SlutWalk Melbourne.
Since 2010 Melbourne audiences have flocked to see smart, funny feminists engaging on topics as diverse as sex, cabaret, sport, crime, digital culture, music, sluts, teaching, comedy, film, dating, fashion, public space, pop and fat. In a format that encourages frank insights, unexpected questions and rolling discussion between feminist peers, Cherchez la Femme is a space like no other. CLF features thoughtful, uncensored, and irreverent takes on pop culture and current affairs from an unreservedly feminist angle. So join us for an afternoon of real talk, guaranteed lols and big-mouthed feminist love!
Guests have included Anne Summers, Jenna Price, Stephanie Peatling, Shakira Hussein, Monica Dux, Van Badham, Clementine Ford, Amy Gray, Celeste Liddle, Emily Maguire, Namila Benson, P.M. Newton, Sophie Black, Anna Barnes, Emilie Zoey Baker, Jessica Alice, Brodie Lancaster and many more in its five year run. CLF tours have taken in Canberra, Sydney, Newcastle and Adelaide and in 2014 CLF joined forces with Gusto Films to screen The Punk Singer: a film about Kathleen Hanna locally.
Now, CLF is coming to Golden Age Cinema, home of Sydney’s most stylish theatre and a stunning bar to keep you refreshed for robust conversation. All proceeds from the sale of popcorn on the day will be donated to women’s charities, because GA is the living best, and I can also personally vouch for the exceptional attractiveness of all the staff.

TARA MOSS: Bestselling crime fiction author, of the Mak Vanderwall series, and recent non-fiction blockbuster, The Fictional Woman, Patron of the Full Stop Foundation for Rape & Domestic Violence Services Australia, UNICEF National Ambassador for Child Survival, and feminist.
NAKKIAH LUI: playwright, Kill The Messenger, and writer/performer in ABC’s smash hit, Black Comedy, proud Gamillaroi and Torres Strait Islander woman from Mount Druitt, inaugural recipient of The Dreaming Award from The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island Arts Board of the Australia Council, inaugural recipient of the Balnaves Foundation Indigenous Playwright award, and feminist.
ELIZA SARLOS: Artistic Director of Underbelly Arts, her experience spans a range of artforms and organisations and has included roles across programming, producing and strategy for MusicNSW, Sound Summit and FBi Radio, author of Amazing Babes, a feminist picture book for kids, through Scribe Publications, and feminist.
We’re going to talk about different kinds of writing and why it matters that women keep doing it, how they can write (through, within, into) their feminism and what our stories can mean when they’re given form and space and value.
